The Riders: Ricky James Age 18 Murrieta Ca. Ricky, was a young hot Motocrosser with a very promising Professional career, until his life was changed on March 10, 2005 in Lake Whitney, Texas while racing an Amateur Motocross National. Ricky sustained a Spinal Cord Injury, Specifically: T-6/7 Burst fracture, which has labeled him as a Paraplegic for the rest of his life.
In His Own Words: To start off, racing motocross was my life plan since I could remember, honestly. There was one thing in my life that I wanted to do and it was to race professionally in front of thousands of people. Everything up until I was injured revolved around racing somehow. Motocross was a way for me to express myself and my determination, it kept me focused and out of trouble as well. I couldn’t believe that with one crash all that went away, or so I thought. Being paralyzed, so much was taken away from me and I knew that riding my dirt bike wouldn’t be taken away that easily. From the get-go, I was determined to see how much I could actually do. I took my injury as a challenge and thought of things in a different way. I have accomplished things, after being hurt, that I never imagined myself doing. It is awesome and I have no regrets yet! I still ride my dirt bike quite a bit and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! I still have a lot that I want to accomplish and attempt, so stay tuned, it’s just the beginning! Life Rolls On! What Motivates You: To overcome this new lifestyle with a smile on my face and no regrets. Also, to push the limits of being a wheelchair and spread the awareness of SCI by doing crazy stuff!
